Getting Pierced in Cranbourne West

If it's your first piercing beyond a standard earlobe, or your first one in a while, this is what to expect from a proper piercing appointment in Cranbourne West, and how Sam Ink does it.

What separates a good piercing setup from a bad one

Piercing looks simple. Push a needle through, put in the jewellery, done. In practice, the difference between a piercing that heals cleanly and one that gives you six months of grief comes down to three things.

Needle piercing, not a gun. Piercing guns (the ones you see at shopping centre kiosks) crush tissue instead of cutting through it cleanly, which slows healing dramatically and increases the risk of migration and scarring. Any proper studio uses single-use sterile needles. Sam Ink does. If a place uses a gun, walk out.

Implant grade jewellery. Cheap jewellery is the fastest way to a slow, difficult healing. Titanium, niobium, or solid gold (14k or higher) are the safe options. Anything sold as "surgical steel" is a mixed bag. Sam Ink fits proper healing jewellery, not costume metal.

Anatomy check before you book. Not every piercing suits every ear or nose. Some ears don't have the cartilage in the right spot for a rook or a daith. Some noses are shaped better for a septum than a nostril. A proper piercer checks this at consult and tells you honestly if a piercing you want won't work on your anatomy.

What to expect at your appointment

Consult first. Even quick ones. We look at the anatomy, confirm what jewellery suits, and go through the aftercare.

The piercing itself. Fast. A single needle piercing is over in seconds. Sharp pinch, then a warm burning feeling for a minute or two, then it settles. Not comparable to a tattoo.

Aftercare walkthrough. Before you leave, you get clear instructions and know exactly what to do for the healing period. Full details are in our piercing aftercare guide.

Piercings we do

Sam Ink in Cranbourne West covers the most common piercings:

  • Earlobes (first hole or second and third)
  • Cartilage: helix, tragus, conch, rook, daith
  • Nostril and septum
  • Eyebrow
  • Lip, labret

If you want a piercing not listed above, enquire and we'll confirm whether we do it.

Cost

Cost depends on the piercing and the jewellery. Simpler piercings with basic titanium studs are on the lower end. Cartilage piercings with higher end jewellery cost more.

Quoted clearly at the consult before we start. No hidden fees.

What to bring

ID. You need to be 18 for most piercings. Earlobes can be done at a younger age with parental consent, but check with us first.

Food in your stomach. Piercings are quick, but people occasionally get lightheaded. Eat a proper meal beforehand.

A friend if it's your first. Not required, but plenty of people bring one.

What not to do beforehand

  • Don't drink alcohol the night before. It thins the blood.
  • Don't take aspirin or ibuprofen in the 24 hours before. Same reason. Paracetamol is fine.
  • Don't get sunburnt on the area being pierced.

After the piercing

Healing times vary widely depending on placement, from 6 to 8 weeks for a standard earlobe to 12 months for cartilage or navel. Full breakdown in our aftercare guide.

The short version: clean twice a day with sterile saline, don't touch or twist the jewellery, don't swim for the first few weeks, and don't change the jewellery until we've said it's ready. Follow that and it heals cleanly.
